These two rounds were held near a very small of Callington, about an hours drive east of Adelaide, or 10 minutes west of Murrays Bridge. As usual the Clover family brought the bike down from Sydney, after cleaning all the mud off from the previous round, thanks Liam and family.
The format for these two rounds was Sprint/sprint. The local club had marked out two 6.2km courses among the trees in a 16ha paddock. The soil was a really fine sand, makes riding at Taikorea seem easy. We took a shorty pipe for this event to give me a bit more bottom end which was a good call as the fine sand really sucked the power out. When I started this series, this round was originally the final round.
I hadn't ridden an 85 since the last round 2 months ago so it took a bit to get used to. I fell off a few times in the first 2 heats. After the second heat on Saturday I only had a 1 second lead. I then settled into the 85 and shaved 20 seconds off my sprint times and after 8 heats I had just over a 2 minute lead giving me the round win.
Sunday we swapped tracks with expert/Pro riders and after their 7 heats, the course was really rough. With an early start and the cold air my bike was running rich and set the second fastest time. By the next heat things had warmed up and the bike running sweet and regained the lead. After 7 sprints I had built a nearly 2 minute lead to give me another round win.
So after 6 rounds I now have a 34 point lead with 4 rounds remaining, 2 enduros, 1 cross country and 1 Sprint day to finish up.
A huge thanks to the Clover family from Sydney for taking my bike to the event.
