Race Report: Inaugural Bush Bash 4hr Cross Country - Tiraumea
Rider: Adam Reeves
Team: Yamaha NZ / Sargent M/C
Bike: Yamaha WR 450
Result: 3rd
This event marked the start of the new season for me after a good offseason break.
There has been a couple of changes over the break with me changing to the WR 450 and a new sponsor on the team in the form of Nathan & Kelly Sargent who own & run Sargent Motorcycles of Carterton, They have jumped on board to help me out for the future.
Anyhow, back to the race, a shotgun blast signalled the start with me not getting the best of starts I had a lot of work to do.
Conditions weren't the best with the area having had a lot of rain it was a mud bath in places.
By the end of lap 3 (1.5hr mark) I had made my way into the lead only to lose it while I pitted for fuel.
I'm yet to fit an oversize tank to the WR and with a few of my fellow competitors running them I found myself playing catch up as I was pitting for fuel every lap.
The following lap I made a bad call and found myself severely stuck in a mud hole unable to lift the bike out on my own I was forced to sit and wait for help ( I wasn't a happy camper)
Thankfully a mate gave me a hand to get the bike out and I was able to continue on with the race. By this stage I was well down the order of placing and a little disappointed with myself, my pit crew managed to fire me back into life again and I set off on a mission to get as far up the field as possible before the finish. Upon the finish of the race I had made my way into 3rd position I was pretty happy with this and I was happy with the way the new bike performed, it was also a good day for my Yamaha teammate Rory Mead as he took a solid win on the day.
