The first rider through the checkpoint at the end of the first lap was AIDEN JONES, rolling through with a 23:24 lap time, followed by HUGH LINTOTT. The next rider through the checkpoint at the end of the first lap was STEVEN BIRD, rolling through with a 24:13 lap time. JONATHON HILL was looking good cruising through the checkpoint with only 0:02 separating him and MARK HUMPHRIES riding in the number 5 position.
We lost 3 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 2, with 63 completing lap number 2.
Still on the gas, AIDEN JONES remained in the lead during lap 2 staying ahead of STEVEN BIRD who was trailing by 1:47.
The largest swings in rider position on this lap centered around ADAM REEVES, moving up from number 51 to the number 26 spot - meanwhile RICHIE HORNE dropped 27 places from number 8 to number 35. HUGH LINTOTT claimed third place, trailing by 0:33. ROSS BIRD was already feeling the length of the race, but blew through the chutes in fourth place, looking for that second wind. Riding in fifth place, JONATHON HILL was like the little engine that could .... looking at the fourth place rider, taking it one corner at a time to reduce that 0:41 disadvantage.
We lost 2 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 3, with 61 completing lap number 3.
AIDEN JONES kept the lead at the end of lap 3 on the gas, and opening the lead on HUGH LINTOTT riding in second place.
The action on this lap centered on ADAM REEVES, moving up from number 26 to the number 15 spot - and on BRIAN PEARCE dropping 8 places - from number 27 to number 35. OOPS - we've had a swap in position as STEVEN BIRD slipped to third from the number 2 spot, trailing by 0:02. ROSS BIRD was doing some brilliant riding, coming through the gates in fourth place, trying to eliminate that 2:15 deficit. MORGAN DRANSFIELD owned fifth place, but with a 1:07 disadvantage.
We lost 5 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 4, with 56 completing lap number 4.
At the end of lap number 4, AIDEN JONES still had the lead, continuing to set the pace on the track.
The largest swings in rider position on this lap centered around ADAM REEVES, continuing his charge through the pack after having a bit of an unplanned lie down in lap 1 up from number 15 to the number 8 spot - meanwhile SHANE JANSSEN dropped 9 places from number 18 to number 27. STEVEN BIRD wasn't ready to toss in the towell and came through the checkpoint in second place - with 3:12 separating the number 2 spot and the first place rider. HUGH LINTOTT was giving us a lesson in physical training by seeming to stroll through the gates in third place ..... but sill trailing the second place rider by 0:34. ROSS BIRD was riding like a person possessed, in fourth place, trailing by 2:51. Coming through the checkpoint in fifth, JONATHON HILL was thinking - "Step aside folks, I'm on a roll." At that point there was only 0:56 separation between the number 5 spot and the fourth place rider.
We lost 16 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 5, with 40 completing lap number 5.
AIDEN JONES was still in the lead at the end of lap 5 with the rest of the pack picking the track debris from their goggles and chest protectors.
The largest swings in rider position on this lap centered around DAVE FOOTHEAD, moving up from number 46 to the number 35 spot - meanwhile JAMES OLIVER dropped 13 places from number 17 to number 30. HUGH LINTOTT was doing some brilliant riding, coming through the gates in second place, trying to eliminate that 3:58 deficit. STEVEN BIRD was giving us a lesson in physical training by seeming to stroll through the gates in third place ..... but sill trailing the second place rider by 0:03. In fourth, ROSS BIRD knew the throttle had to stay open if there was any chance of eliminating that 3:38 disadvantage. ADAM REEVES was clearly doing well on the track, moving from eightth place to fifth place, trailing the fourth place rider by 0:02.
We lost 37 riders by the time we'd reached the end of lap 6, with 3 completing lap number 6.
Lap 6 had AIDEN JONES still in the lead, followed by STEVEN BIRD. Vitalized by support from the crowd, HUGH LINTOTT was doing well, coming through in third place - trailing by 1:36.
In the end it was a good race, yet there was only one leader, with AIDEN JONES controlling the field throughout the race, with an average speed of 56.77 Kph.
