2012 Bushriders Cross Country series
Round two of the Bushriders Cross Country series went off in slightly better weather than last year on the weekend. This was the "Castlehill" venue of Grant Christie, up the Castlehill road from Alfredton. Last year was the first time the club had been there for a number of years. The senior only event last year was held in very windy conditions, whilst it was again windy, it wasn't to the extent of last year.
It was a new venue for the Junior riders this year. Daniel Christie took advantage of his home track knowledge to again holeshot the feild and lead to the chequered flag. The many creek crossing played a major factor in the results with Australian Offroad winner Scott Sowry having bike issues due to the water. Thanks to the great commaraderie of parents in the pits, were able to get the problem sorted. Unfortunately the race was cut back to 1 hour ending any chance to mount an attack for the lead.
The senior race had no surprises. Four time US OMA champion Paul Whibley grab the holeshot with Yamaha's Adrian Smith and Dirt Guide rider Scott Sowry in pursuit. Sowry pulled out after the 1st lap after hitting a tree. Wellingtons Hugh Lintott took over 3rd place with those placings remaining unchanged at the 2 hour finish flag.

Round 3, a new venue on the property of Conrad Beech at Ngaturi. The venue for this round has been shifted to the other end of the property at Kaitawa.
Round 4 which was previously scheduled for Atrig on the 19th February has been changed due to the inclusion the the opening round of the New Zealand cross country championship. The new venue is set "Escourt Estate " of Guy Lewis in the Pa Valley. It will still run on the 19th, the same date as origally planned. It has been a few years since we have riden there. A huge thanks to Guy for making the property available at such late notice.
Then rounding out the series we head southeast again to a new property at the end of Pa Valley road at Alfredton to the properties of Nick Nelson and Paul Dickens where I'm sure some new champions will be crowned as we get into the National series.
