2012 Bushriders Cross Country Series. (Rnd2)
2012 Bushriders Cross Country series
Round two of the Bushriders Cross Country series went off in slightly better weather than last year on the weekend. This was the "Castlehill" venue of Grant Christie, up the Castlehill road from Alfredton. Last year was the first time the club had been there for a number of years. The senior only event last year was held in very windy conditions, whilst it was again windy, it wasn't to the extent of last year.
It was a new venue for the Junior riders this year. Daniel Christie took advantage of his home track knowledge to again holeshot the feild and lead to the chequered flag. The many creek crossing played a major factor in the results with Australian Offroad winner Scott Sowry having bike issues due to the water. Thanks to the great commaraderie of parents in the pits, were able to get the problem sorted. Unfortunately the race was cut back to 1 hour ending any chance to mount an attack for the lead.
The senior race had no surprises. Four time US OMA champion Paul Whibley grab the holeshot with Yamaha's Adrian Smith and Dirt Guide rider Scott Sowry in pursuit. Sowry pulled out after the 1st lap after hitting a tree. Wellingtons Hugh Lintott took over 3rd place with those placings remaining unchanged at the 2 hour finish flag.

Round 3, a new venue on the property of Conrad Beech at Ngaturi. The venue for this round has been shifted to the other end of the property at Kaitawa.
Round 4 which was previously scheduled for Atrig on the 19th February has been changed due to the inclusion the the opening round of the New Zealand cross country championship. The new venue is set "Escourt Estate " of Guy Lewis in the Pa Valley. It will still run on the 19th, the same date as origally planned. It has been a few years since we have riden there. A huge thanks to Guy for making the property available at such late notice.
Then rounding out the series we head southeast again to a new property at the end of Pa Valley road at Alfredton to the properties of Nick Nelson and Paul Dickens where I'm sure some new champions will be crowned as we get into the National series.

BRXC Round One - "The Rock".
BRXC Round One - "The Rock".
Round one of the 2012 Cross Country series was run under near perfect condition last Sunday at "The Rock". We returned after a 2 year hiatus and ran in reverse direction. As usual the Juniors kicked off first with Daniel Christie claiming his second holeshot of the new season on his WR250, followed by Jarod Hislop(YZ125) and Scott Sowry(RM125). 5 minutes into the lap Daniel missed a turn letting Scott into the lead.
Scott didn't look back and took the win easily with a 5 minute lead on Daniel with AFC rider Campbell Murdoch(125SX) finishing 3rd outright and in class. Charlie Richardson(85SX) took the early lead in the JXC2 class and looked to be unchallenged until a big off mid race, at the end of the start straight severely bent his bars, badly damaged his front wheel. At the chequers Josh Pilet had closed to within 20 seconds behind.
Sarah Elwin(RM125) won the ladies and Thomas Harrington the trail class.

With 45 seniors on the line, Brandon Givens(KTM300EXC) grabbed the holeshot taking the early lead. It wasn't long before Adrian Smith(YZF250) overtook for the lead. Scott Sowry(RM125) joined the fray overtaking them both and leading the feild thru the timing gate for the first two laps. During lap three Smith regained the lead and led to the chequers. Halfway thru lap four Sowry retired with a loose rear brake caliper. After a bad start National Champ Adam Reeves(YZF450) battled thru the pack to claim second ahead of Givens in third.

Someone accidentally took my Fly aluminium bike stand at the Bushbash. Can you bring it to the first round please.
Yeh you do, you can buy a day license for $20. If you are looking at doing the whole series and maybe 1 or 2 other rides, it would pay to buy a club license for $90. That is cheaper than 5 day licenses, technically you are only allowed to buy 3 or 4 day licenses.
Do riders require a MNZ Licence for the upcoming x-country series .. and if so, what’s a day licence going to cost .. thx
